IcuSync connects Claude to your training data. Before you ask Claude to build your first workout, read this, it will help you get better results and avoid the common mistakes.

IcuSync is a connection layer. It gives Claude the ability to read your intervals.icu training history and push structured workouts to your calendar. Claude does the thinking, IcuSync handles the plumbing.

Claude is a large language model built by Anthropic. It is not a certified running or cycling coach. It does not have a qualification, a licence, or any accountability for what happens when you follow its suggestions. What it does have is the ability to read your training data, understand training principles, and generate workouts that are structured and coherent often remarkably well.

Used thoughtfully, it is a genuinely useful tool. Used without judgement, it can suggest things that are wrong for you.

What Claude does well

  • Summarising your recent training load in plain language
  • Identifying patterns across weeks or months of data
  • Writing structured workouts to your zones, threshold pace, or power targets
  • Explaining what your fitness and fatigue metrics mean
  • Helping you think through a training block, taper, or race prep
  • Answering questions about your data that would otherwise require staring at graphs

Where you need to apply your own judgement

Claude cannot feel how your legs are today. It cannot see the injury you had six months ago that never made it into your training log. It does not know you had a bad night's sleep, are fighting off a cold, or are carrying stress from outside training.

It works from the data in your intervals.icu account nothing more. If that data is incomplete, inconsistent, or missing context, Claude's output will reflect that.

Specifically:

  • Always review a workout before pushing it to your watch. Check that the duration, intensity, and structure make sense for where you are in your training.
  • If Claude suggests a volume or intensity that feels too high, trust that feeling. You know your body better than any model does.
  • Do not follow AI-generated training plans blindly. Use them as a starting point for your own thinking, or as a complement to coaching you are already receiving.
  • IcuSync is not a substitute for a qualified coach, especially if you are new to structured training, returning from injury, or preparing for a significant event.
  • Nothing generated through IcuSync constitutes medical advice. If you have a health concern, consult a doctor or physiotherapist.

If you are new to structured training

If you have not trained with zones, threshold pace, or structured sessions before, start by reading the guides in the Resources section before asking Claude to build workouts. Understanding the basics yourself means you can evaluate what Claude produces and catch it when it gets something wrong.
