Australian Deaflympic marathon and ultra runner, and the solo developer behind IcuSync.

If you've searched for this, you probably want Claude to look at your Garmin training data, spot patterns, and help plan your next block, and push that plan straight to your watch. Here's exactly how that works, and why it has to go through Intervals.icu.

The short version

Garmin's official APIs require business approval through the Garmin Connect Developer Program, not simple self-serve signup, and Garmin has currently suspended that program for new applicants. That's why every "Garmin MCP" project you'll find on GitHub uses unofficial, reverse-engineered access instead, your Garmin username and password stored on your own machine, since applying for the real thing isn't an option for a new project right now.

Intervals.icu already holds official Garmin Health and Training API partnerships, in place well before the suspension, so your Garmin activities and workouts sync the legitimate way. IcuSync connects Claude to that Intervals.icu connection. Once it's set up, Claude can read your full Garmin training history (activities, heart rate, power, pace, CTL/ATL/TSB) and push structured workouts back to your Garmin calendar for you to run.

Do I need an Intervals.icu account?

Yes, and it's free. This isn't an extra hurdle, it's the reason this can exist safely at all. Intervals.icu already handles the Garmin sync properly through Garmin's own API, so IcuSync doesn't have to touch your Garmin credentials, and neither do you.

If you don't have an Intervals.icu account yet, see Setting Up Intervals.icu for the First Time.

What Claude can do with your Garmin data

  • Analyze recent training load, fatigue, and form (CTL, ATL, TSB)
  • Compare sessions, spot trends, flag overtraining risk
  • Read Garmin running dynamics if you have a compatible accessory, see Unlocking Garmin Running Dynamics
  • Build structured workouts and push them straight to your Garmin calendar
  • Review a completed Garmin activity in detail

Why Intervals.icu, and not a closed platform

IcuSync could have tried to build a direct Garmin connection. It's not possible to do safely at scale, and Intervals.icu already solves it properly. Here's what Intervals.icu is and why IcuSync is built on it.

Intervals.icu already does what most paid platforms charge for, and it's free. Power curves, CTL/ATL/TSB modelling, and support for every sport, running, cycling, swimming, triathlon, not just one. It covers the same ground as TrainingPeaks without the subscription. More on how it compares: Strava vs TrainingPeaks vs Intervals.icu.

It's a real, established community, not a closed system you're stuck inside. Intervals.icu's forum has over 110,000 members, active since 2018, with new athletes joining every week. Built and maintained by a small independent team with an active community behind it.

You're not locked to one device. Garmin, Coros, Wahoo, Polar, and Suunto all sync natively into the same Intervals.icu account. Add a second device later and it's already covered, same account, same Claude connection.

Your training data isn't stored by IcuSync. Claude's requests are answered live from Intervals.icu each time, nothing sits on IcuSync's servers in between. Full details on our data page.

IcuSync is listed as an approved app in Intervals.icu's official directory, visible to any user under Settings → Apps, granted directly by Intervals.icu after review against their published API terms.
